What was most challenging about creating an connected UX product concept?
The most challenging part of creating a connected UX product concept is designing the user journey and creating accurate devices for the experience.
What part of this project did you enjoy most? What part of this project did you enjoy least?
What I enjoyed most about this project was being able to demonstrate the experience from start to finish using the resources I already had. What I enjoyed the lease, was the the time we had to spend on this project. I wish we had more time.
How was your creative process challenged by this project? What were the similarities in how you approached this project and other digital design projects? What were the differences?
What new challenges did you face when communicating and prototyping your connected UX product? How did you overcome them?
The challenges I faced while designing this project was creating something that didn’t exist. I had to find similar experiences and relate it to mine. For example, my experience is a sleeping experience. It was challenging for me to observe users in that element, so to improvise, I watched YouTube videos of user’s night time routine and how they would interact with a similar product.
Between designing for digital and designing a connected experience, which do you prefer? Why?
I like both. I thought it was really fun. It was cool to come up with a concept and actually put it in motion. I don’t think you can have one without the other.
For this project, you had to simultaneously focus on original concept, physical/digital interaction, and movie magic. How did you juggle those responsibilities? Which were your strengths? Which can you improve on, and how will you work on those areas of improvement in future projects?
I tried to be the jack of all trades with this project. It was challenging trying to get someone to be in the footage. In the end, I’ve realized I could’ve 3D modeled it all in Cinema 4D. I didn’t have the right equipment to get B Roll footage for my project. The footage came out really noisy because I had to use a high ISO on my camera. In the future, I would either rent equipment from the school, or put more time in 3D modeling and animating my scenes. I was able to create a really great model using Cinema 4D and was able to animate the scene. The only thing that was in the way was time. It took a really long time for a 10 second clip to render. It would’ve taken 6 hours to render. I was only able to use a fraction of the clip. It was a lot of fun using Cinema 4D to model and animate everything. I wish I would’ve started there from the beginning. I didn’t realize I could model and animate most of my footage and was really surprised when I got it to work.
